Theme: Foundation of the Christian journey
Text: Colossians 2: 6-7
In today’s fast-paced, constantly shifting world, it’s easy to feel ungrounded, tossed about by
expectations, emotions, and pressures. But what would it look like to live a rooted life? A life
that is steady, nourished, and fruitful?
The Bible gives us a clear answer:
“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith…” (Colossians 2:6–7, NIV).
To be rooted in Christ is to find our stability in Him, to draw nourishment from His presence and His Word, and to grow in spiritual maturity. But how do we live this out as women who long to follow Jesus faithfully? The answer is discipleship.
What Discipleship Really Means
Discipleship isn’t about checking spiritual boxes, attending a Bible study, or having all the right answers. It’s about saying “yes” to Jesus, every single day. It’s choosing surrender over self, letting His Word renew your mind, His love reshape your heart, and His Spirit lead your life. To be a disciple is to walk so closely with Jesus that His ways become your ways. It’s becoming more like Him, and helping others do the same. This is the heart of discipleship: transformation that multiplies.
What It Means to Be a Disciple of Jesus
Being a disciple of Jesus is more than a title; it’s a way of life marked by daily devotion and ongoing transformation. It means:
Inviting His presence into your everyday moments and trusting Him with each step.
Soaking in His Word and recognizing His voice as He speaks to your heart.
Allowing the Holy Spirit to renew your thoughts, shape your desires, and guide your actions.
Living in an authentic community, growing together, and encouraging one another in love and truth.
Helping others know Jesus, follow Him deeply, and grow in their faith.
Discipleship is a lifelong journey of becoming more like Christ and inviting others to walk that path with you.
Signs of a Rooted Life
A woman deeply rooted in Christ stands firm, no matter the season. Her life reveals the quiet strength that comes from being grounded in Him:
She remains steady in the storm, not because life is easy, but because her peace is anchored in Jesus.
Her identity is secure, rooted in God’s truth, not shaken by comparison or the shifting voices of culture.
She bears lasting fruit: love, joy, peace, patience, and more, evidence of a life nourished by the Spirit.
She is anchored in the Word and prayer, drawing strength, wisdom, and direction from daily communion with God.
A rooted life isn’t loud, it’s resilient. It quietly testifies to the One who holds it all together.
This rootedness doesn’t happen overnight. Like a tree, it grows over time. It requires
intentionality and commitment.
How to Grow Deep Roots in Christ
A rooted life doesn’t happen overnight; it grows through intentional, daily choices. Here’s how to cultivate roots that last:
Stay in the Word; even fifteen minutes in Scripture can shift your perspective and anchor your heart in truth.
Pray with honesty, God isn’t looking for perfection; He desires a real, ongoing relationship. Talk to Him freely and often.
Grow in community, you weren’t meant to walk alone. Discipleship thrives where hearts are connected, and faith is shared.
Walk in obedience, don’t wait for the big moments. Roots grow deeper with every small, faithful “yes” to God.
Deep roots lead to lasting fruit. Start where you are and keep going.
Pause and Reflect
What’s one small step you can take this week to go deeper with Jesus?
Maybe it’s carving out quiet time in His Word, saying “yes” to that discipleship group, or simply pausing to pray before you respond.
Small steps lead to deep roots. Ask Him, listen, and begin.
You don’t have to be perfect. You just need to be planted.
A Prayer to Grow Deeper
Here’s a simple prayer you can pray as you seek to grow deeper in Christ:
Lord, anchor my heart in Your love. Root me deeply in Your truth, nourish me with Your Word, and strengthen me by Your Spirit. Grow in me a rooted and resilient faith, a love that reflects Yours, and a life that draws others to follow You. Help me walk closely with You and lead others on that same path. Amen.
